I, an Iranian-Canadian woman, explore identity, diaspora, and duality through the tension between precision and abandon. My art combines controlled detail and raw gestures to express the layered self. My practice reflects cultural and personal contradictions while confronting expectations placed on women in both Middle Eastern and Western contexts. After immigrating to Canada, I finished high school while still learning English. My very first class? French, taught entirely in English, which I didn’t even speak yet. That absurd and unexpected encounter nurtured my resilience and gave form to something within me, a realization that in the endless act of making and remaking meaning, so much is lost, so much is born, and so much is forever reshaped.
